(Part II) When Waiting Isn't an Option: Developmental Screening and Evaluation for Toddlers with Signs of Autism

Mother and EI specialist converse while watching child play

Presented by:
Anjali Gowda Fergusen, Ph.D., LCP
Part C System Leadership from: Danville-Pittsylvania, Rockbridge Area, Staunton-Waynesboro, Harrisonburg-Rockingham, & Richmond

This two-part webinar series shines a light on developmental screening evaluation, and diagnosis for toddlers showing early signs of autism, with a focus on timely identification and action. Families often face very long waitlists for appointments with developmental pediatricians, delaying formal diagnosis and access to specialized services. During this waiting period, Part C early intervention practitioners play a critical role in conducting high-quality screening, gathering functional information, and supporting families through the next steps. In Part I, participants learned about developmental screening and assessment for autism, particularly the use of the RITA-T. In Part II, participants will hear from local Part C programs in Virginia who are implementing one of three different models for early screening and assessment of autism in toddlers with the RITA-T.
